A typesetter places the translated English text where the non-English text was removed, and matches it to the style and feel of the project and the story’s mood. Be warned, it may sound easy, but typesetting is an art-form. However, we do offer training!
All our staff are volunteers. This is, basically, our hobby. However, as members of a team we make a commitment to each other that we will take our work seriously, and for that reason we ask that everyone applying for one of our roles does so with the intention of sticking around for a while. We ask our typesetters to commit to setting at least two chapters a month.
We use photoshop in all our work, so a PC or laptop able to run it is a must. Owning photoshop also helps a great deal, but we do provide a free copy of the program here on our Resources page.
Typesetting requires you to understand the style and mood of the story you’re typesetting and match the English text to the source material. As such you will need to understand how fonts work, and where to get more fonts. Your font folder will become exceedingly large! In fact, you can see Yuffie’s Font Folder in the resources section if you want to see how big a font folder can get!
You will be expected to keep a record of all the fonts you use on a particular project, and we do that by creating a font sheet that includes all SFX and special fonts used in a chapter. For this we require detail-oriented people!
