How to Import Brushes and Patterns

How to import brushes

Brushes are a great way to add some flair to your art! There are many free websites with a large archive of Photoshop brushes such as Behance, Brusheezy, DeviantArt, Freepik, MyPhotoshopBrushes, and many more.

Before installing a Photoshop brush, please make sure that all the files you want to download are .ABR file type. Usually you can double click the file and it should prompt up the brush installation window. In the case that it does not, you can manually install it by:

1) Open Photoshop.

2) Windows > Brushes.

3) Click the top right corner and click on import brushes.

Voila! Brushes installed. You can access your brushes via the brush window.

How to manually import patterns

Patterns are an easy way to add some flair to your images. Free Photoshop patterns can be found on websites such as AllFreeDownload, DeviantArt, FreePik, MyPhotoshopBrushes.

You can also manually install a pattern from an image by opening the image you wish to turn into a pattern, going to edit > define pattern. Set the pattern name and voila you’ve successfully installed a pattern.

How to import pattern files

Before installing a Photoshop pattern, please make sure that all the files you want to download are .PAT file type. Usually you can double click the file and it should prompt up the brush installation window. In the case that it does not, you can manually install it by:

1) Open Photoshop.

2) Paint Bucket Tool (located in tool bar/tools window).

3) Go to the top menu and swap it from foreground to pattern.

4) Click on the pattern icon, click on the cogwheel, and select load pattern. Upload your patterns and you’re done.

Voila! Patterns installed. You can access your pattern using the paint bucket tool or from layer styles.
